Despite a varied range of models, Chevrolet has pulled out of the UK market, meaning you can no longer buy a new Chevrolet in Britain.

Chevrolet models

  • Chevrolet Aveo

Underneath its chiselled Chevrolet looks, the Chevrolet Aveo uses tried and tested parts from the Vauxhall Corsa. It's only available with five-doors and comes with a choice of three petrol engines and three very frugal diesels. The engines are economical and the ride is well judged, but it isn't as much fun to drive as the Ford Fiesta. It does offer lots of space however, and the interior feels well made.

  • Chevrolet Camaro

The Chevrolet Camaro is a real American muscle car from the makers of the legendary Corvette. Available as a two-door coupe or convertible and with a powerful V8 engine, the Chevrolet Camaro is a very modern take on the highly-revered 1960s original.

  • Chevrolet Captiva

The tough-looking Chevrolet Captiva offers lots of space and practicality, especially as it can be had with a seven-seat layout. Chevrolet has abandoned its competitive pricing policy with the Chevrolet Captiva, though, as the top-spec models now cost more than £30,000, if you choose optional extras. However, all cars feature alloy wheels, plenty of airbags and air-conditioning, plus an enormous interior which can swallow up people and luggage with ease. There's a single engine choice - a smooth 2.2-litre diesel in two power outputs - and the more powerful of these is available with an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive.

  • Chevrolet Cruze

The Chevrolet Cruze is the firm's rival to the VW Golf and Ford Focus. Available in saloon and station wagon bodystyles, as well as a more practical hatchback, the Chevrolet Cruze looks stylish on the outside, and the interior is a big step forward in both design and quality from the older Chevrolets in the range. The Chevrolet Cruze drives well, although the petrol engines are underpowered and the diesel is noisy. All Chevrolet Cruzes get height-adjustable driver's seats, air conditioning and MP3-compatible stereos, and all benefit from a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

  • Chevrolet Orlando

The Chevrolet Orlando offers the practicality of a small people carrier, wrapped up in a functional, boxy looking body. It's spacious, and competitively priced - and with its hard wearing interior it's a great choice for young families. Only a lacklustre petrol engine lets the range down. The diesel engined car is very impressive.

  • Chevrolet Spark

The Chevrolet Spark is a supermini designed to compete with the Hyundai i10Suzuki Alto, Nissan Pixo, Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108. Two petrol engines are available – a 1.0-litre and a 1.2-litre – so the Spark is cheap to run. It's also easy to drive and features striking styling. The interior is large, with decent space for rear passengers and all models come with six airbags as standard. However there are some cheap plastics used inside, and basic models have no adjustable steering wheel.

  • Chevrolet Trax

The Chevrolet Trax is the smallest Chevrolet SUV, designed to take on the Nissan JukeSkoda Yeti and Ford EcoSport. Its sister car, the Vauxhall Mokka, has the same underpinnings but comes with more equipment, yet the Chevrolet Trax uses the same range of four-cylinder engines, starting with a 1.6-litre petrol, a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.7-litre diesel. It's available in both front- and all-wheel drive, with rugged off-road styling and a spacious interior that comfortably fits five adults. It's not amazing to drive, nor a class-leader in terms of fit and finish, but it's a well-made, good-value crossover.

  • Chevrolet Volt

The Chevrolet Volt answers most people's problems of 'range anxiety' when it comes to electric cars. Fitted with batteries, an electric motor and a petrol generator the Volt can run on electrical power alone for up to 40 miles. Once the battery power runs out, the 1.4-litre petrol generator kicks-in and powers the motor, adding a further 250 miles to the range.
