Subaru

reviews all Subaru models SUBARU
Subaru's reputation is built on its devotion to four-wheel drive and unique ‘boxer’ engines which give better weight distribution. Popular in rural areas, the three-strong range offers solidly built, dependable motoring, whatever the weather.

Subaru models

  • Subaru Impreza

The Subaru Impreza earned a cult following with its legendary performances in the World Rally Championship. Few cars in its class are offered with four-wheel drive, but all Imprezas have it as standard, making it popular in rural areas. A sluggish engine and five-speed manual gearbox let it down, but an enviable reliability record count in its favour.

  • Subaru XV

The Subaru XV is Subaru's entrant into the highly competitive compact SUV or crossover class. The jacked-up suspension and practical hatchback body offers buyers a highly practical and comfortable addition to the Subaru range.

  • Subaru BRZ

The Subaru BRZ is a front-engined, rear wheel-drive sports car from the makers of the Impreza WRX STI. Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder 'boxer' engine, the Subaru BRZ produces 197bhp and is capable of 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds. It's designed to provide the maximum amount of driving pleasure for the least possible cost, making the most of its very low weight and low centre of gravity. Affordable, comfortable and good looking, Subaru's new coupe is very impressive.

  • Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester has grown from a tall estate car into a proper SUV, and is all the better for it. It might not be as stylish as a Mazda CX-5 or Ford Kuga, but four-wheel drive, rugged reliability and practicality makes it a hit with owners who need a work horse. The standard 2.0-litre petrol isn’t a great performer, but the 2.0-litre diesel is ideal for day-to-day driving. A 2.0-litre turbo petrol gives punchy performance, but its running costs are very high.

  • Subaru Levorg Sport Tourer

The Subaru Levorg is another left-field option from Subaru. It's sporty and practical with a huge boot and a fun driving experience. There's plenty of equipment as standard, too, but you'd expect that from a car costing £27,000. It's appeal is limited though, as it's only available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and a CVT gearbox which limits the fun and involvement you could get from the car.

  • Subaru WRX STi

There was a time in the last few years when we weren't sure if we'd ever see another saloon-bodied Subaru WRX STi in the UK - but a favourable exchange rate and strong customer demand has turned this on its head and made the impossible, possible.
The WRX STi offers impressive performance – 0-62mph in just 5.2 seconds and a top speed of nearly 160mph, all for less than £30,000. There's a big boot and enough room for four adults, and standard equipment is generous, but if it's comfortable suspension you're after, then look elsewhere.

  • Subaru Outback

The Subaru Outback offers a degree of off-road ability thanks to its jacked up suspension and toughened bodywork. It's comfortable and quiet to drive and extremely well built. There's a powerful diesel engine available, and even entry level cars have the kit and comfort to rival a much more expensive Audi or Volvo – though interior plastics aren't quite a match for the premium brands.
