The five-door Skoda Fabia feels like it’ll outlive its owners, such is the feeling of solidity and quality. The interior is a bit utilitarian as a result and the styling is unfussy and plain rather than striking or dramatic, but if you want an honest, solid supermini then the Skoda Fabia is difficult to beat. It's fun too, and useful as an estate.

The Skoda Rapid is a compact hatchback designed to take on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus, bringing space and practicality to the fore rather than luxury and refinement. It has the biggest boot in its class and certainly is the cheapest to buy.

watch videoSkoda Octavia
The Skoda Octavia is one of the most practical, best-value and no- nonsense cars in its class, mixing impressive performance with low running costs and a comfortable, upmarket interior.
It's available as a five-door hatchback with a huge 610-litre boot, or as an even more practical estate. There's plenty of room inside for all the family, and with various storage areas dotted around the interior, there's enough space for all their stuff, too.
Based on the popular Volkswagen Golf, the cleverly packaged Octavia offers all the best parts of the VW – including a similarly upmarket interior, the same economical engines and decent reliability – but with more space, cheaper list prices and improved standard equipment. If the Skoda badge doesn’t put you off (and it shouldn’t) then the Octavia could be all the car you’ll ever need.

read reviewSkoda Yeti
People-carrier features like removable and sliding rear seats and the upright driving position and boot space of a 4x4 combine in the Skoda Yeti to create a useful family car. It competes against other crossover models like the Nissan Qashqai, but the Yeti delivers a more entertaining drive. It looks great too, while a tough, high-quality interior and comprehensive equipment levels across the range, allied to good pricing, make the Skoda Yeti a fantastic purchase for active families.

The Skoda Superb offers a fantastic amount of space with a surprisingly low price. How much? Well, the Superb provides the kind of legroom you'd expect to find in a £100,000 luxury car, and the comfortable and quiet driving experience is hard to beat at any price. The current model has lost the quirky twin hatchback/saloon-style boot arrangement, and is better looking as a result. If you want more space, then there's an estate version which is vast inside. There's a wide choice of petrol and diesel engines too, and the Skoda Superb is actually quite good to drive despite its size.

watch videoSkoda Roomster
The Skoda Roomster is Skoda's most unconventional looking car. It fuses the front end of the Fabia supermini with the rear of a mini people carrier to create a practical family car. There's plenty of space for passengers, plus a large boot for luggage. This can be expanded by sliding the rear seats forward, or removing them altogether, giving a huge load space. The Roomster isn't the best car to drive, but it's cheap to buy and run, and you can’t argue with the solid build quality inside and out.
