Kia

reviews all Kia models Kia
Kia is the sister brand of Hyundai, and offers a similarly wide range of well built family cars which are competitively priced and all come with a seven year warranty. From the small Kia Picantocity car to the new Kia Sportage, there's something in the range to suit the vast majority of tastes.

  • Kia Picanto

Small, stylish and very cheap to run, the Kia Picanto is a pint-size city car that should get you from A to B with ease. It just about manages to hold its own against strong competition from the likes of the Hyundai i10Renault Twingo, Volkswagen up!, Skoda Citigo and SEAT Mii and will turn heads thanks to its cheeky looks and range of bright paint colours. Boot space isn’t quite as good as the competition, but it's still worth looking at if you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful small car.

  • Kia Rio

The Kia Rio hatchback is an attractive car available in both three and five-door bodystyles and comes well-equipped, helping it compete with the Ford Fiesta. The interior is spacious, with plenty of room for four adults and lots of useful storage cubbies. The 1.1-litre diesel is the headline-grabber, emitting a tax-free 85g/km of CO2 and managing 88mpg, making it one of Britain's most economical cars. Plus it comes with Kia's excellent seven-year warranty.

  • Kia Venga

The Kia Venga is a small people carrier that gets the basics right by providing plenty of cabin space and a big boot. However, the firm's petrol and diesel engines feel weak in this large vehicle, and the car has none of the personality of the Kia Soul. Some nice touches like a boot whose floor can be lifted for easier loading make the Kia Venga practical, and there's a seven-year warranty, but it's not as good value as other Kias.

  • Kia Soul

The Kia Soul hatchback is now larger, more upmarket and smoother to drive. It still has daring, SUV-like chunky looks with bright colours if you are bold enough to choose them. There's lots of room inside and the Soul is well-equipped, but it's let down by its engines, which are too thirsty and expensive to tax.

  • Kia Cee'd

The Kia Cee’d is a Ford Focus rival that comes in three forms: standard five-door hatchback, sporty three-door Pro_cee’d and practical Cee’d SW estate. The names may sound unusual, but all three are very impressive rivals to theVolkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. All models feature spacious interiors that have plenty of standard features and big boots. The Kia Cee’d range is powered by some decent petrol and diesel engines, and while this car doesn’t handle as well as a VW Golf or Ford Focus, it's cheaper to buy than its more obvious rivals.

  • Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has previously won Carbuyer's Car of the Year and Best 4x4 awards. Several years on, it's still one of our favourite cars of this type, even if newer models like the Nissan Qashqai are nicer to drive and cheaper to run. Even so, the exterior is very stylish and well proportioned, while the interior offers space for five and a huge boot. The Kia Sportage comes loaded with standard equipment and a choice of petrol or diesel engines. An automatic gearbox and four-wheel-drive versions are also available.

  • Kia Carens

The Kia Carens is a practical, seven-seat compact people carrier designed to compete with the Vauxhall Zafira and Toyota Verso. But while its basic appeal means it's practical, fuss-free transport for large families, it doesn’t offer much more than that. In many respects it feels a step behind more recent Kias, such as the Kia Cee’d and the Kia Soul. The cabin is bland and fashioned from hard grey plastics, and the driving position lacks adjustment. It is well priced, however.

  • Kia Optima

Kia has given its latest version of the Kia Optima a refresh to help keep it up-to-date with its rivals. Up against stiff competition from the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat, the mid-sized saloon gets a quieter interior and mild styling tweaks. The new Optima is only available with the 134bhp 1.7-litre diesel engine that is found in the Kia Sportage.

  • Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento is a large seven-seat SUV that combines tough, rugged off-roader looks, with a decent on-road drive – and all for a sensible price. There is a 2.4-litre petrol, five-seat entry-level model available, but we’d recommend opting for the punchy 2.2-litre diesel engine instead. Seven seats are standard on diesels, and leather trim comes on all but the base car. Equipment like air conditioning, electric windows and MP3-compatible stereos is standard on all cars.

  • Kia Niro

The Kia Niro is the brand's first dedicated hybrid model and, unlike the 'teardrop' shape of the Toyota Prius and Hyundai IONIQ, the Niro is a trendy compact crossover that will appeal to family buyers looking for something with low running costs.
