Peugeot

reviews all Peugeot models PEUGEOT
Peugeot has been experiencing a renaissance in recent months. Its 3008 crossover and RCZ coupe have set new standards in style and driving fun for the firm's future cars. The rest of the range is still playing catch-up, but a wide selection of cars at competitive prices makes Peugeot hard to ignore.

Peugeot models

  • Peugeot 108

The Peugeot 108 is the French manufacturer's smallest model, and has been developed in conjunction with Citroen and Toyota. That means it shares a number of its parts with the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo, which should in turn make it more reliable and cheaper to maintain.
It comes with a choice of 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines, as well as four specifications and the option of a folding fabric sunroof. All models manage more than 60mpg and every engine emits less than 100g/km of CO2 for free road tax. Insurance should be cheap too, making it an ideal first car for new drivers.

  • Peugeot 208

Peugeot's striking new supermini, that replaces the ageing Peugeot 207, represents a brilliant return to form for the French maker. More cabin space and a larger boot help to boost practicality, while a drop in weight improves emissions and fuel economy. The eye-catching looks and an all-new interior join a range of highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. The 208 is available as a three and five-door hatchback.

  • Peugeot Bipper

The Bipper Tepee is essentially the same car as the Citroen Nemo Multispace and Fiat Qubo. It's based on a van, which gives the Bipper its characteristic slab-sided, high roofed look. But the boxy design provides lots of room inside. The rear seats are accessed through sliding doors, which are a bonus in tight parking spaces. There's just one small diesel engine available and a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes. All versions are very cheap to run but the interior does feel built down to a price and the rear windows only open halfway.

  • Peugeot 2008

The Peugeot 2008 supermini crossover is a direct rival for the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. The Peugeot 208-based 4x4 has a distinctive look and raised ride height, while black plastic bumpers and sills will help deflect any scrapes. The boxy body is based on a stretched Peugeot 208 platform, so there will be more space inside, while large windows and a panoramic sunroof will make the interior feel spacious. Power comes from Peugeot's range of turbo petrol and diesel engines, while e-HDi diesel models will have emissions of 99g/km.

  • Peugeot Partner Tepee

The Peugeot Partner Tepee is designed as a people carrier for those on a budget. Space comes as a standard, with a van-like interior offering lots of room for people and luggage. The Partner is easy to drive and can transport passengers in comfort. However, the Tepee's low purchase price does mean that almost all luxuries are optional extras. Thankfully the options themselves aren’t too expensive. If you regularly drive the car with a full load of passengers or luggage, the smallest petrol engine is best avoided.

  • Peugeot 308

The latest Peugeot 308 is one ofthe most stylish and economical family hatchbacks on sale. It boasts sharp lines and smart details on the outside, while the inside feels expensive and well built. There's a wide range of powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines to choose from, all of which offer reasonable running costs. Interior space is generous, with one of the largest boots in the class, but there's also a more practical 308 SW estate version if you need some more space.

The Peugeot 3008 is Peugeot's first attempt at a 'crossover' vehicle, and it's a great effort  The big Peugeot mixes the attributes of a people carrier, a family hatchback and a 4x4. That makes it spacious, practical and high riding, so it's many things to many people. The ride is very comfortable, making the Peugeot 3008 a sensible family car purchase.

  • Peugeot 5008

The Peugeot 5008 is significantly more practical than Peugeot's previous large people carrier, the Peugeot 807. It's comparatively compact proportions mean it's easier to drive around town than full sized rivals such as the Dodge Journey or Chrysler Voyager, but there's still a lot of space inside. It's good to drive, too, and the economical HDi diesel engines are cheap to run and have strong performance. The seating is also very clever, so  the Peugeot 5008 is an appealing alternative to the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso or Vauxhall Zafira.

The Peugeot 508 is a comfortable, stylish alternative to the Ford Mondeo. Available as a saloon and an estate, both cars are good to drive. The estate has an enormous boot, though the practicality of the saloon is limited by its bodywork (the boot is very large, but hard to access). Despite this, there is still plenty to get excited about. The Peugeot 508 offers is exciting and rewarding to drive, and there's plenty of head and legroom for both front and rear passengers. A wide engine range means there is plenty of choice - while standard specification includes sat-nav and leather for mid spec models and above.

  • Peugeot RCZ

The Peugeot RCZ has sports car looks but costs about the same as a family hatchback. Designed to compete with the Audi TT, it represents excellent value and comes well-equipped. Powerful turbocharged petrol or diesel engines ensure performance is in keeping with its sports looks, while a surprisingly large boot and decent fuel economy also makes the RCZ more practical than most rivals.

  • Peugeot iOn

The electrically powered Peugeot iOn is a tweaked and rebadged version of Mitsubishi's i-MiEV, and is one the first all electric models from Peugeot to go on sale in the UK. To distinguish it from the Mitsubishi, it's fitted with new front and rear bumpers, as well as an ESP system to boost safety. Plus, the iOn has a more simple gearbox offering only park, reverse and drive modes, doing away with the Mitsubishi i-MiEV's economy and performance settings. Power comes from a 64bhp electric motor located at the rear and there's powerful battery pack under the floor - which will carry you up to 93miles. As the electric motor is almost silent and there are no gearchanges, the iOn is really good around town. It's less impressive on the open road, however, where it feels slow.

  • Peugeot 207

The Peugeot 207 is Peugeot's answer to the Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta. Despite being a relatively old design now, the Peugeot 207 is still an impressive all-rounder, with neat styling, excellent diesel engines and good handling. The Peugeot 207 also benefits from Peugeot's improved attention to detail over interior build quality, making the supermini's cabin feel upmarket. As well as the three and five-door hatchback models, a stylish Peugeot CC convertible is also available.

  • Peugeot Expert Tepee

The Peugeot Expert Tepee is Peugeot's largest MPV. The van-like looks aren’t a strong point, but the Peugeot Expert Teepee does include sliding rear doors to help access in tight spaces, and space for up to nine people. The ride is comfortable, but it's better to opt for the larger 2.0-litre diesel engine, rather than the 1.6-litre diesel, as the Peugeot Expert Tepee becomes quite a heavyweight when loaded to capacity. If you’re a private buyer, the entry-level Comfort model is best left to taxi firms. If you can afford it, go for top-of-the-range Leisure version, as that model comes with air conditioning as standard as well as the 2.0-litre engine.
