Suzuki
Suzuki's range of superminis and 4x4s offers value packed motoring. The firm often partners with other manufacturers – the Suzuki Alto is also a Nissan Pixo – but Suzuki's own Swift is the firm's best car.

Suzuki Celerio
The Suzuki Celerio is a low-cost, spacious small hatchback designed to compete with the Volkswagen up!, Hyundai i10 and Toyota Aygo. It might be basic to look at, but it offers the choice of manual or automatic gearboxes and provides plenty of practicality thanks to a decent boot a five doors. Plenty of equipment is fitted as standard, but it is still priced close to more desirable models.

It's got a budget price-tag, but the Suzuki Swift is actually one of the best all-round superminis on the road. The Suzuki Swift was heavily updated in 2010 and with much more space inside, is a very practical choice - despite a small boot. All models are enjoyable to drive and offer very low runing costs.

The robustly built Suzuki Jimny 4x4 is the smallest, most affordable off-roader offered for sale in Britain. Amazingly, it's big on off-road ability, and despite its low purchase price it feels relatively well equipped. Only available as a the three-door, the model is not that big on practicality, but an excellent choice for anyone who wants the capability of a 4x4, but not the large bills that often come with it.

The SX4 is Suzuki's attempt at building a 'crossover' car like the Nissan Qashqai. While it's not as good an all-rounder as the Nissan, the Suzuki SX4 offers low prices and generous equipment levels, so it makes sense as an affordable alternative. One of the Suzuki's biggest selling points is the fact that the front-wheel drive machine offers 4x4 looks, but not the usual high running costs.

The Suzuki Vitara name has been around, in one form or another, for many years. This latest version is the best yet, with lively engines, a modern design and an impressive amount of kit fitted as standard. It sits below the Suzuki S-Cross in the manufacturer's range and is closer in size to a Nissan Juke. You can choose from two- or four-wheel drive, petrol or diesel engines and manual or automatic gearboxes.

watch videoSuzuki Alto
The seventh-generation Suzuki Alto was developed in partnership with Nissan, offering three trim levels and more equipment. That can’t detract from its all-encompassing budget car vibe, however. That's not to say it's bad, but unlike the best city cars, the Suzuki Alto feels built down to a price.

The Suzuki Baleno is a small, five-door hatchback that's slightly larger than the Suzuki Swift. It offers more interior space than most models of a similar size and it's not short of standard equipment either.

It's big, it looks the part and it's competitively priced. The Suzuki Grand Vitara is an excellent alternative to the likes of the Toyota RAV4. It's available in three and five-door bodystyles and offers convincing off-road performance. The robust four-wheel drive set-up is capable of carrying it a long way off the beaten track. Steering is accurate, but the suspension is firm, and the car is noisy on the motorway. What's more, even the most efficient engine returns only 34mpg, and running costs are high.

This Fiat 500 rival looks cute and has an appealing price tag. The Suzuki Splash is pretty well equipped and has a reasonable amount of safety equipment offered as standard. However, the cabin is only really big enough to seat two adults and two children, and the boot is small.
